# ERM-1023

> This Slack channel or person couldn't be found

## What happened

Slack couldn't find, or couldn't message, the channel or person in the action.

## Common causes

* Wrong channel or user ID (use the ID, e.g. `C0123ABCD` or `U0123ABCD`, not the name).
* The channel was deleted, or it's private and the app hasn't been added.
* For direct messages: workspace settings don't let the app DM that person.

## How to fix

Copy the ID from Slack (channel details → bottom of the "About" tab, or a person's profile → "Copy member ID") and update the action.
