# Creating a form

> Start a Form Generator, describe what you're collecting, then save and publish.

Creating a form means describing what you want to collect — there's no field-by-field form builder to work through.

**1. Start a Form Generator**

From **Ask Mary**, choose **Form Generator**. Name it, optionally link **Brand Guidelines** and a **Landing Page** it belongs to, and optionally attach a **Form Brief** file — then select **Start**.

**2. Describe what you're collecting**

Tell Mary what the form is for — a webinar registration asks for different fields than a contact request. If you linked a landing page, Mary can read what it implies and propose fields from that instead. Either way, Mary proposes a field list and waits for your go-ahead before creating anything.

**3. Consent comes along automatically**

If you added a consent checkbox, Mary links it to your account's **default consent text** — a reusable statement written out in each language your pages use, not something you type in here. Every accepted submission records exactly which version and language the visitor saw. Need different wording for this form, or a consent text for the first time? See [Connect your consent platform](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/settings/web-edge/consent-provider.md).

**4. Save it, then publish it**

Saving creates a draft version — it isn't live yet. **Publish** deploys the form (and anything it depends on, like its activity trigger) together; until then, its capture endpoint won't accept anything.

Once you publish, the form shows as published and its capture endpoint accepts submissions.

> The Form Generator in Workshop is the usual way to create a form. Forms can also be created programmatically for automated workflows — not covered here.

## Editing a published form

Editing a published form's fields or after-submission text works the same way, through the same chat — but it creates a new draft version instead of changing the live one right away. Publish again when you're ready; the previous version keeps serving submissions until then.

![Editing a published form creates a new draft version to publish separately — this one's already at v2](https://mintcdn.com/allgoodtechnologyinc/DQMtL2_opiZ_jq3e/images/mk/content/forms/form-generator-edit.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=DQMtL2_opiZ_jq3e\&q=85\&s=4866b8199d081f34a249f31105f1c7ab)

Once it's published, test it before putting it on a live page — see [Testing a form](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/forms/testing-a-form.md).
