# Creating a landing page

> Set up a landing page generator, brief Mary, and end up with a draft page you can preview.

You create a landing page by describing it. You set up a **landing page generator**, give it a brief, and Mary turns it into a finished page, then saves it as a draft.

## Before you start

Have these ready. None is required, but each makes the page better:

* A [brand guideline](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/brand-guidelines.md), so the page matches your look and voice.
* A [landing page template](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/templates.md) or a [page component library](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/page-components.md), so the page is built from approved sections.
* A [form](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/forms/creating-a-form.md), if the page should collect anything.

**1. Start the generator**

In **Content**, select **Create**, then choose **Landing Page**. You name and brief it on the next screen.

Choose Landing Page

A window then asks how you want to start. Select **Start from scratch** to build the structure and dependencies yourself, or choose a template. To start from a template, see [Making a page from a template](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/making-a-page-from-a-template.md).

Select Start from scratch, or choose a template

**2. Set up the generator**

Enter a name for the generator. The name is required. Then fill in what you have:

* **Page Components:** choose a [page component library](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/page-components.md), so the page is built from approved sections.
* **Brand Guidelines:** select **Use brand guidelines** and choose one, so the page matches your look and voice. Select **No brand guidelines** to skip it.
* **Page Brief:** choose a file that says the goal of the page, who it's for, and what you want the visitor to do.

Name the generator, link what it builds from, and attach your page brief

Select **Start**. You land in **Workshop**, the chat with Mary about this page, where she builds it.

**3. Name the form in your brief**

If the page should collect information, say so in your brief and name the form you want. The page then submits to that form. See [Adding a form to a page](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/forms/adding-a-form-to-a-page.md).

**4. Name the address in your brief**

Include the **slug** you want, which is the path the page serves at on your subdomain. Use lowercase letters with hyphens, such as `spring-launch`. Mary sets it when she builds the page.

There's no field for the slug in the page itself. Once the page exists, its address shows beside its title, such as `/spring-launch`. To change it later, ask Mary.

A page can't be saved without a slug. If another page already uses the address, publishing is stopped, and the message names the address that's taken.

When this works, the page appears in **Content** as a draft. Open it, and you can preview it before anything goes live. See [Previewing a landing page](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/previewing-a-landing-page.md).

## Change it afterwards

Ask Mary for a change in plain language, and she saves it as a new version. If you'd rather change the code yourself, see [Editing a landing page's code](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/editing-the-code.md).
