# What a landing page is

> A landing page is one self-contained page that allGood hosts for you. Here is what that means, and what you can and can't do with it.

A **landing page** is one self-contained web page that allGood hosts on your branded subdomain and serves quickly to visitors anywhere in the world.

It isn't built in a page editor. You describe the page to Mary, allGood's AI, and she writes it as one complete document. allGood then keeps every version, shows you a private preview, and serves the page once you publish it.

## What you get

* **A page you ask for, not drag together.** Describe the goal, the audience and what you want visitors to do. Mary builds the page from your [brand guideline](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/brand-guidelines.md), and from a [template](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/templates.md) or a [page component library](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/page-components.md) if you give her one.
* **An asset with versions.** Like an email, a page has versions, a published version, and a record of what it was built from. See [Publishing and versions](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/approvals.md).
* **Its own address.** The page serves at a path you choose on your subdomain, such as `yourbrand.com/spring-launch`. Your admin sets up the subdomain once. See [Connect a subdomain](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/settings/web-edge/connect-a-subdomain.md).

## What a page can and can't use

A page is built once, when you publish it, before any particular visitor arrives. So it can use other assets and its campaign. It can't use anything about a person.

> [!WARNING]
>
> A page that asks for a visitor's name is refused when you save it. There is no visitor at that point, so the name would be empty for everyone who ever loaded the page.

To show different people different versions, publish more than one page and let a [router](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/testing-versions-of-a-page.md) choose between them.

## What a page is made of

* **Forms are separate.** A page embeds a [form](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/forms/index.md). The form owns what it collects, and the page owns how it looks.
* **Images are separate too.** Pictures on the page are [visual assets](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/visual-assets.md) with their own addresses.
* **Fonts and styles can come from public services.** A page may use a public font or style service. Third-party fonts and tracking pixels have privacy effects that you own.

## Hosted by allGood, or hosted by you

Everything above is about pages allGood hosts. If your page already lives on your own website, you can register its address so campaigns and motions can point at it. See [Using a page you host elsewhere](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/using-an-external-page.md).
