# Marketo to MK

> Where everything you know from Marketo lives in Marketing Kernel.

If you know Marketo, you already know most of what Marketing Kernel (MK) does. The names and the layout are different. This page maps one to the other.

## Where things live

| In Marketo | In MK | What you do there |
| - | - | - |
| Marketing Activities | **Motions** | Create and run campaigns |
| Program (while you build it) | **Workshop** | Build and edit a motion's emails and pages with Mary |
| Design Studio | **Content** | Every email, landing page, form and image, with versions |
| Database | **Data** | People, companies, activity and every change made to them |
| Smart campaigns and data management rules | **Orchestration** | The rules that clean data, decide, and move people through a campaign |
| Admin | **Settings** | Domains, integrations, users and roles |

## Term by term

### Campaigns

| Marketo | MK | Good to know |
| - | - | - |
| Program | [Motion](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/motions/index.md) | One campaign, with its content and its rules for who gets what |
| Program template | Motion template | Set up once by ops, filled in for each new motion |
| Channel (Webinar, Content, Email Send) | [Motion type](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/motions/motion-types.md) | Gated content, Webinar, Event, Broadcast. The type decides the flow, so you never build one |
| Program statuses (Registered, Attended, No Show) | Plan states | Each person is in exactly one state |
| Trigger and batch smart campaigns inside a program | Transitions and actions | Built for you by the motion type. "Webinar attended" moves someone to the next state |
| Wait steps | Timed actions | "3 days after submit" means 3 days after *that person* submitted |
| Suppression rules ("stop if they converted") | Built in | Leaving a state cancels any emails it hadn't sent yet |
| Approve program / activate campaign | Publish | Same functionality |

### Content

| Marketo | MK | Good to know |
| - | - | - |
| Email | [Email](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/email/index.md) | Ask Mary to change it, or change the MJML yourself in **Edit Source** |
| Email template | Email template | An MK email template is closer to the pre-built email inside a Marketo program template |
| Modules | Components | Components are the approved layout blocks. |
| My Tokens (`{{my.token}}`) | Copy fields | No folder or program inheritance. Each email has its own |
| Lead tokens (`{{lead.First Name}}`) | `{{ person.firstName }}` | See [Personalizing an email](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/email/emails/personalizing-an-email.md) |
| Landing page | [Landing page](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages.md) | Describe it to Mary instead of using an editor. Pages on your own site (e.g. Webflow) can be registered too |
| Form | [Form](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/forms/index.md) | One form, reused by any number of pages. No cloning |
| A/B test | Content router | Two versions plus a rule that picks one per person |

### People and data

| Marketo | MK | Good to know |
| - | - | - |
| Lead database | Datastore | Synced from Salesforce or your warehouse |
| Smart list | Agentic list | Describe who you want in plain language |
| Static list | List | Upload a CSV or add people directly |
| Program members | Members | Everyone who's ever been in the motion |
| Data management campaigns (normalize titles, scoring, routing) | [Policies](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/data/orchestration.md#policies) | Each one decides once, and every motion uses the result |
| Activity log | Decision log | Every change comes with the reason it happened |
| Salesforce campaign sync | Plan campaign sync | Membership and status sync to the Salesforce campaign |

## The biggest differences

* **Mary builds, you review.** You give her a brief and she builds the motion. You change things by asking, not by clicking through an editor.
* **No folders or token inheritance.** Shared details, like a webinar's date and join link, live on one asset that every email points to. Change it once and everything follows.
* **One answer to "why did they get this?"** Every send and every move is logged with its reason. No digging through smart campaigns.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Some Marketo features don't have an MK equivalent yet, including engagement programs, progressive profiling on forms, and A/B variant reporting. Ask your allGood team about workarounds.
