# Visual assets

> Generate or upload an image and host it at a stable address on your own subdomain.

A **visual asset** is one image, held as a real asset. It has versions, you publish it, and allGood serves it from your branded subdomain at an address that doesn't change.

Without this, an image lives wherever the tool that made it put it. Teams end up with logos on four different hosts and no idea which pages use which.

You can **generate** an image with Mary or **upload** one you already have. Either way you end up with the same thing: a published image at a stable address.

## Generate an image

If you have a picture to start from, such as an earlier banner or a product shot, have it ready. Mary adapts a reference image, which usually works better than building from words alone. A [brand guideline](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/brand-guidelines.md) helps too, so the image matches your look.

**1. Start the image**

In **Content**, select **Create**, then choose **Visual Asset**. You land in **Workshop**, the chat with Mary about this image. There's no setup screen first.

Mary opens with two starting prompts, **Generate a visual asset from a brief** and **Make a hosted image from my brand**. Select one, or type your own request.

Tell Mary what the image shows, where it will be used, such as a hero or a banner, and the mood you want. Mention your brand guideline if you have one. Attach a reference image if you have one.

**2. Pick one**

If your brief is open, Mary offers a few options. Choose the one you want. Ask her to change it, and she adjusts that image instead of starting over.

An asset holds one image. For a second image, make a second asset.

A typed request in the chat. The image appears beside it as a Draft, with a description under the title

**3. Check the description**

Under the image's title on **Summary**, you see a short description of the image. There's no field to edit it. To change it, ask Mary.

**4. Preview and publish**

Select **Open Preview** to see the image at a private link that expires. Nobody can reach the image until you publish.

Select **Publish**, then confirm in the window.

The card shows the image's file, its address, and the Publish and Open Preview buttons

See [Publishing a landing page](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/landing-pages/publishing-a-landing-page.md) for what that window shows. It works the same way for an image.

When this works, the image loads at its address. The address starts with `/_ag/img/` on your subdomain.

## What you see on the asset page

**Summary** shows the image with its title and description. **Details** below it lists the image's width, height and type.

The card on the right shows the image's file name and type, its address with buttons to copy and open it, and **Publish** and **Open Preview** buttons. Under the card, the version history lists each step, such as **v1**, **Published** and **Deployed**.

## Upload an image

If you already have the image, you don't have to generate it. In **Workshop**, attach your image to the chat with Mary and ask her to save it as a visual asset. A logo or an icon in SVG works too. Then publish it as you would a generated image.

Width and height can read **0** in **Details** for an image you uploaded.

## Take it down

Open the **⋯** menu on the image's card and choose **Take Down…**. Type **OK to take down** to confirm. The address stops showing the image, and any page or email that uses it shows a broken image. Every version is kept, so you can publish it again at the same address.

## Change the image later

Ask Mary for a change. She saves it as a new version of the same asset. The address stays the same, so what points at it keeps working.

Once you publish the new version, the image is live at that address on the edge right away. Pages and emails that use the address show the new image. You don't republish them.

## Good to know

* **Your logo usually belongs in your [brand guideline](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/brand-guidelines.md)**, not in a visual asset. Use visual assets for images that a specific email or page shows.
* **A downloadable file is something else.** A whitepaper or PDF someone receives is a [hosted file](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/hosted-files.md).
* **Pictures on your own site** can still be used. See [Using an image you host elsewhere](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/visual-assets/images-hosted-elsewhere.md).
