# Motions

> The campaign layer: what a motion is, the types available, and how one gets launched.

A **motion** is a campaign as allGood models it: a goal, the content it needs, and the rules for who enters and what they receive. Motions are typed — a gated content download is a different shape from a webinar follow-up — and each type knows what it needs from you before it can run.

Underneath, a launched motion becomes a plan and a set of policies. You do not have to think about that layer to run a motion, but it is where the behavior comes from.
