# Launching a motion

> What launching does, what a running motion shows you, and how to stop one.

Launching a motion is one action that publishes everything the motion owns and starts its plan. Until then, the motion and its assets are ordinary drafts you can edit freely.

## Before launch

An unlaunched motion's Summary shows how many of its assets are authored and how many are published. If any are missing, the Workshop builds them. The Launch button is on the Workshop tab, under the card that reopens the chat that built the motion.

## Launching

**1. Press Launch**

Only offered before the first launch. The button opens a confirmation rather than firing, because a lot is published behind one word.

**2. Review what goes live**

The dialog lists every asset the launch publishes, with the version that is published now and the version that goes live. This is the moment to catch a page still in draft.

Every asset the launch publishes, and the version that goes live.

**3. Confirm**

One publish runs over the motion. The form registers, the landing page goes live at its address, the emails become sendable, the motion goes live, and it derives the plan it will run on. Everything is pinned at the version you reviewed, as with any [approval](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/content/approvals.md).

After the first launch there is no second Launch button. Pushing a later edit live is the same Publish every asset has.

## What a running motion shows

The Status page is shared by every type. A period picker sets the range every number is counted over, from launch by default.

* **Activity.** What happened in the period: entries, sends, conversions.
* **Funnel.** Each step of the motion with its own count, in the type's own terms. For gated content: page, form, delivery, each follow-up.
* **Trend.** Entries over time at the granularity you choose.
* **Members.** Who is in the motion and the state each person is in. Open a person for their timeline.
* **Plan.** A link to the plan the motion compiled, for anyone who wants the engineering view. The plan links back.

The motions list groups everything by state: **Published**, **Stopped**, **Never launched**, and **Templates**.

## Stopping

Stopping a motion is **Take down**, the same action as taking down any published asset. It takes the motion's live deployment down: the landing page stops serving and the form stops accepting submissions.

> Taking a motion down does not yet retire the plan it compiled. People already in the motion may continue to receive scheduled follow-ups after it is stopped. If you need sends to stop immediately, contact support and ask for the plan to be retired as well.

## Good to know

* **Launching is approving.** There is no separate approval step for the motion. Confirming the launch dialog is the sign-off.
* **Only the types on the [Motion types](https://docs.allgoodhq.com/mk/motions/motion-types.md) page have a Launch button.** Anything else in the picker can be authored but not launched yet.
* **Every state change is logged with a reason.** "Why did this person get the second follow-up?" has one answer, on their timeline.
